FEBRUARY 2010

And a belated Happy New Year to all our readers. No new fiction this time, alas, but watch this space; we hope to have an exciting new project to set efore you soon.

Meanwhile, the Air Force One story
UNPRECEDENTED has been removed from the site - we hope that those of you who wanted your own copy had plenty of opportunity to download it to your hard drives. Other stories will be disappearing in due course; we will try to give you plenty of warning before we delete them.

We would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone for their continued loyal support; this website is still making new friends even though we rarely have new fiction to add to it these days, and we are always glad to know that you enjoy what you are reading. Similarly, if you notice any problems we hope you will let us know about them rather than making snide remarks about it elsewhere which has unfortunately been the case recently. Please e-mail the usual address if you have any comments or queries.

Best wishes for a productive and prosperous New Year.

RECOMMENDATIONS

I'm sorry to say that many of the sites I originally recommended have now disappeared,
and I have found very little online that I like half as much.
Therefore this section of the website is getting smaller; it may eventually be discontinued altogether.

HENRY
V

As I have mentioned elsewhere, Hyarrowen is the doyenne of the (admittedly not massive!) Henry/Herald fandom and I am delighted that HENRY'S JOURNEY is now an ornament to this website. Of her other work I particularly recommend 'The Tale of the Forgiven Knight' and the wonderfully romantic 'The View From Byzantium', but I understand there are more new treats on the way. If you like your slash out of the ordinary and with a solid historical background you cannot possibly go wrong with these!

JEEVES
AND
WOOSTER

I have recently discovered an archive full of what are, I'm afraid, described as 'Jooster' stories, at Indeed, Sir. The quality varies considerably and the archive also contains het, femslash and other Wodehouse-based pairings so some caution is needed on searching. However there are some delightful pieces to be found; I recommend starting with triedunture's 'Jeeves and the Club for Inverts' and Leaper182's 'Merry Christmas, Jeeves'.

LIFE
ON
MARS

Unfortunately many of the people who write Life on Mars fiction would benefit from John Peel's advice to Manchester United fans, "Manchester is about half-way up England on the left." There aren't many I would recommend, but Loz would be first among them. I won't select a particular story of hers, but I will say that she's one of very few people in fandom who can actually make even the short-short format (under 1000 words) work. Naturally, though, I prefer her more in-depth stories. You might also care to try halotolerant's 'How We Smashed Johari's Window'.

MISCELL-
ANEOUS

Don't forget to take a look at TALIESIN'S REACH. Taliesin has paid this website the massive compliment of 'adopting' Ryan Caldwell and writing her own Air Force One saga entitled 'Give A Mouse A Cookie', and the whole site was recently re-vamped to good effect. Professionals fans can get their fix at THE HATSTAND ARCHIVE, which aims to be a comprehensive collection of the slash fiction available in that universe. ITHILAS.COM has the best Tolkein slash; I'd recommend 'The Folly of Starlight' (Elrond/Legolas), and a friend of mine speaks highly of the 'Rolling Thunder' Aragorn/Boromir AU on the same website. If Aragorn/Boromir is your thing, you can also find it at FELLOWSHIP accompanied by some delectable artwork. I'm delighted to be able to renew my recommendation of Kylie Lee's 'Acceptable Risk' Star Trek: Enterprise (Tucker/Reed) series, now available on the author's own site. Highlander aficionadoes who want more of Chris Quinton's fiction would do well to check out this site where the rest of her stories in that genre are archived. Finally, I have recently been introduced to House both as a TV show and as a fandom and I find the work of ignazwisdom stands out a mile. Her 'A Modest Proposal' is wonderful stuff which I totally recommend. She also writes in other universes - Blades of Glory being one of them. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

MULTI
MEDIA

For those like me with a butterfly mind, these archives cover a multitude of subjects: BRITSLASH has slash fiction by British writers and some smaller fandoms you may not have thought of, but the site is no longer being updated. KITTY'S HOUSE OF PLEASURE AND PAIN explores the darker side of slash fiction. 'Through Smoke and Mirrors' is an all-time great (and is now, to my delight, also available on this website) but I also loved the 'Blood Price' series even though I'm not familiar with the show it's based on. I should have mentioned the STORYTELLER'S CAMPSITE long ere this (apologies for the omission). It not only houses the writer's own slash fiction, but also provides a number of links and recommendations to other stories she has enjoyed. I'm very pleased to report that THE OFFICERS' CLUB is back, having changed service providers; there's an eclectic mix of old fandoms and new, all written to the author's usual high standard.

THE
SENTINEL

The Sentinel archive at 852 PROSPECT is the best place to start; you can find a whole range of Jim/Blair fic there. I like Dasha's 'Dorset County' series and XFreak's no-holds-barred rocks-off smut. Also anything by Francesca would be worth a look. I have recently discovered that the fiction by Lemon Drop/quercus (see Stargate, below) is still available after all, and so I recommend you to beat a path to her door.

STARGATE
SG-1

Fortunately all the Stargate archives seem to have survived as the amount of good slash fiction available in this particular universe is mind-boggling. Start your search at AREA 52: THE HKH STANDARD. Another excellent source is THE COMFORT ZONE, and there is a goldmine of stuff accessible from the J D DIVAS home page. Individual stories I recommend are Biblio's 'A Quiet Victory' (access via JD DIVAS) and Xochiquetzl's 'I Never' (access via Area 52). Also look for anything by quercus, (see Sentinel above) particularly 'Only Love Survives'; the woman's imagination and stamina never cease to astonish me.

THE
WEST
WING

Many of these seem to have vanished from the Net, although 'You and Me in a Rowboat to Rio' by Punk and Sabine has recently resurfaced. So has 'You and Me of the 10,000 Wars' by Violet and Ellen M, although I find the latter a bit light on actual slash action. The strongest recommendation I can give for this universe (other than HIERARCHY OF NEEDS of course!) is for L Bright's Civil War AU 'By My Cry', which you might still be lucky enough to find cached somewhere, and the same author's much shorter 'Hurricane' is of a similar awesome standard. These are all Josh/Sam. Priya Denorain's 'Watching the Sun Rise from the Back of a Truck' is my favourite Jed/Leo, although I have to admit that I don't believe one single word of it!
